Photography is always an adventure – the people, the places, the art itself – it is a constant world of discovery. This past weekend I had the great fortune to not only meet and hang out with yet another homeschooling family with three great kids, but they also lead me to a spot I swear is right out of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Just off the number 1 highway outside of Victoria is Goldstream Provincial Park, and if you are lucky enough to find your way through the tunnel that leads under the highway and manage to make your way up the (then dry) stream, you will discover the rewards at the end: an impossibly perfect waterfall descending some 400 feet or so to an impeccable crystal clear swimming hole below. Unfortunately the weather was a tad on the chilly side for a dip this time of year, but the colours of the forest in the early morning sun were so beautiful that I was happy to be wrapped in sweaters and scarves. We climbed, we giggled, we (ok they) swung from trees – basically we covered every inch of that riverbed shooting and talking as we went. The time flew by and before I knew it, it was time to go. But I’ll be back soon, and again and again to explore, to discover, and when summer finally comes round, definitely to swim!
